Friday News

*First for some local news. St. Mary's reputation is growing constantly. We have a bishop from France who will be coming to visit us on Sept 13 to learn about promoting vocations. Did I mention we have 8 men and women entering formation for the priesthood and religious life this year? That is right at our average.

*The Pope fell and fractured his wrist, but is doing Popey things already.

*Pray for those persecuted for their faith. For instance, the families who are fined for ignoring the Vietnamese two-child per family law, so as to remain faithful to their Catholic faith.

*Bishop Tobin has some interesting insights into the liturgy after he attended Mass incognito during his vacation. Here is a snip:
The last time I attended Mass on vacation, the priest began by announcing: “As we begin today, folks, let’s take a few minutes to get acquainted with the people around you. Tell your neighbor your name, where you’re from, and what you do for a living.” And so the congregation sat down for this banal banter while the priest assumed his talk-show host persona and worked the middle aisle greeting people. Please . . . that’s not community; that’s a cocktail party!
*Pray for the Anglicans. More problems are arising for them around the world. This time the problem is out of Sweden after the Anglican bishops of Sweden voted to bless same-sex couples unions.
