Pray for his soul, his family, his friends, his parishioners, and his killer.
AUSTIN (KXAN) - A man authorities are calling a suspect in the apparent homicide of an Austin priest is in custody in Mexico, the priest's family members said early Monday.
The body of Fr. Jesse Euresti, head of the Cristo Rey Catholic Church, was identified by family members on Sunday night after authorities in Nuevo Laredo found his remains on a nearby highway.
Euresti had been missing in that border city, just across the Rio Grande River from Laredo, Texas, since last Tuesday.
The caretaker for his home there, Manuel Martin Torres-Saldana had been sought for questioning after police found blood all over the inside of the house. Euresti's mattress was also missing.
Family members told KXAN on Monday morning that Torres-Saldana is in the custody of Mexican authorities, but had no other details.
Police had also recovered the caretaker's car with blood inside it, the family said.
After five days of searching, Mexican authorities found the body on the side of the Anahuac Highway, outside downtown Nuevo Laredo, off the road in an area that is a frequent dumping ground for homicide victims, authorities said.
